Another fine performace for Zonkey sponsored Frome Town FC uder 12′s!

Frome welcomed Westbury Youth Tigers to Oakfield on Sunday morning for this Mid Wilts league match.

Westbury got the game underway attacking down the slope, but it was Frome who applied the early pressure, and won a corner on 2 minutes. Luke delivered a fantastic ball into the box, and Nick reacted quickest to put the ball in to the net and give Frome the early lead.

A good midfield battle followed, and on 7 minutes Frome were awarded a penalty when Dylan was brought down in the area. Morgan stepped up and made no mistake, placing his spot kick into the bottom corner for 2-0.

Westbury reacted well, and applied pressure of their own with a great free kick that just cleared the cross bar before good work on the left and a low cross saw them convert to make it 2-1 after 12 minutes.

Frome regrouped and again looked to press, on 18 minutes Yahya carried the ball forward from the midfield and played Dylan through, the Frome forward took the ball in and calmly finished to make it 3-1 Frome.

On the stroke of half time Yahya was realeased, and his pace took him half a yard clear of the Westbury defence, he came under pressure in the area but managed to fire home for his first and Frome’s 4th.

So 4-1 to Frome at the interval, a score that was a little harsh on a gritty Westbury side.

Frome had to weather a strong start to the second period as Westbury pushed forward in numbers, but a Frome break 10 mins in led to a corner, and once again the delivery from Luke was first class. The ball bobbled up in the 6 yard box and Dylan was on hand to smash it home. 5-1 to the Robins.

Frome had their tails up now, and Yahya burst forward on the left midway through the half, he shielded the ball before teeing up Luke on the edge of the box. Luke made space and fired in a shot that the Westbury keeper parried, but Dylan was quickly upon it to prod home for his hatrick and Frome’s sixth.5 minutes later Yahya almost added to the tally when he burst clear, but saw his fine drive come back off the inside of the Westbury post, and this time Dylan couldnt react in time to steer it home.

With the game almost over Frome caught Westbury pressing high, and a clever quick throw in by Morgan released Yahya, and this time the Frome player made no mistake as he ran in on goal and hammered the ball home. 7-1 to Frome.

With seconds remaining a clever dummy run released Joel through the middle, but his effort from 14 yards went just wide of the post, and so the scores remained 7-1 at the final whistle.

Whilst the scoreline was very one sided, Westbury were unlucky not to have scored a couple more, and all players involved should be proud of the effort they put into this entertaining match.

Castle Combe Colts 3 – 6 Frome Town FC

Frome travelled to a rainy Castle Combe on Sunday morning for this league match and a first meeting between the two teams. It was a match that saw Frome hand debuts to five new players.

Frome got off to a perfect start as straight from kick off they mounted an attack that saw Dylan head the ball back into the area and Yahya turn and volley home on his debut – all within the first minute.
Dylan almost added to the tally himself when minutes later he volleyed goalwards only to see his effort saved by the excellent Castle Combe keeper.

Castle Combe dusted themselves down and a great contest developed with both teams looking to play football and push forward. Morgan marshalled the Frome defence and made some fantastic tackles, enabling Charlie and Ben to drive Frome onwards.

It was Castle Combe who were next to find the net, as a spectacular long range effort from the midfield caught Josh off his line and the back peddling Frome keeper could do little to prevent the ball dipping under the cross bar for 1-1.
The game swang from end to end, and on the 27th minute Frome failed to clear Castle Combe corner and it was headed home, 2-1 to the hosts. Frome weren’t behind for long though, as on the stroke of half time Sol broke from within his own half, beat the home defence and fired home.

So 2-2 at the interval and all to play for.

Castle Combe started the second period brightly, and a lobbed ball back towards goal deceived everyone when it dropped just under the crossbar to give them the lead. Frome didn’t let their heads drop though and within two minutes Yahya broke down the right and fired a low cross in towards Sol, the Frome forward taking the ball down before slotting home from just inside the area to make it 3-3.

Luke, Nick and Jacob were winning the midfield battle for Frome, and their work allowed Charlie to break clear mid way through the half, he skillfully rode tackles and found the net from just outside the area to put Frome 4-3 up.

Frome tails were up now, and they started moving the ball around well, The Castle Combe keeper was on form to deny further efforts, but with 12 minutes remaining Yahya received a short corner, beat two defenders on the line and finished with a cheeky effort through the keepers legs, 5-3 to Frome.

Three minutes from time Sol completed his hatrick, latching on to a long goal kick to race in and finish in the bottom corner, his third and Frome’s sixth.

Frome kept control to see the last few moments out, and at the final whistle the score was Castle Combe 3-6 Frome.

With so many great performances, it was a tough decision, but Frome’s man of the match went to Sol for his three crucial goals.

Chippenham Town Blue u11’s 0 – 3 Frome Town FC u11’s

Zonkey sponsored Frome travelled to Stanley Park for their league game against Chippenham on Saturday. Fortunately the rain held off and provided a perfect morning for football.

Frome kicked off and immediately went on the attack, creating their first clear cut chance in the opening 60 seconds when the tenacious Sol work the ball to the touch line and crossed, but Fin on the back post failed to get the touch needed to convert.

Undeterred Frome kept up the pressure, and a similar attack saw the first goal, as Sol once again drove into the box and crossed – this time Fin made no mistake, turning the ball in to the net at the far post. 1-0 Frome.

Chippenham defended resolutely as Frome pressed on, and the Chippenham keeper produced a fine display to keep it to 1-0 at the interval.

The second half started as the first had finished, with Frome looking to add to their lead, and the Chippenham keeper making several fine saves.

5 minutes into the second period the ball fell to Charlie on the edge of the Chippenham box, the Frome midfielder controlling it, giving himself a yard of space and firing an 18 yard rocket into the roof of the Chippenham net, 2-0 and what a strike!

Just two minutes later Charlie repeated this feat, this time from a full 20 yards, with a dipping shot that the Chippenham keeper could do nothing about.

With the score at 3-0 Frome shuffled the pack and comfortably saw the game out, with Cole, Morgan,  Oli and Joe snuffing out any late Chippenham attacks, and Josh alert and quick off his line to collect any through balls.

A great game of football, with both sides a credit to their clubs and the game.

Frome Man of the Match: Charlie, for taking hold of the game and two fantastic strikes to secure the points.

Derry Hill u11s 0 – 12 Frome Town FC u11

Frome Town FC under 11′s travelled to a wet and windy Derry Hill looking to continue their good run of form prior to the Easter break.

The first few minutes saw both sides looking to get hold of the ball, but it was Frome who started to dominate, and on 5 minutes a partly cleared Frome corner was crossed back in by Charlie and Dylan reacted first to divert the ball into the Derry Hill net.

Frome looked to press the advantage, and a Charlie got to the line wide on the right, delivering a fine cross that Jakub tucked away to make it 2-0.

Frome’s tails were up, and Dylan shortly made it 3-0, beating two defenders and rounding the keeper before calmly slotting home.

Frome were now moving the ball around with nice passing, Sol and Ben were a constant threat down the wings, and it was Sol whose work was rewarded next, a driving run and shot that the Derry Hill keeper got two hands to but was unable to keep out.

Just before half time Joel came close to adding to the lead before the ever industrious Charlie burst into the box and fired low into the corner of the net.

5-0 up at half time, and Frome were determined not to sit back as they started the second half applying more pressure and winning an early corner.

It was from this corner that Frome produced their best football of the match. The ball devliered in by Ben was cleared by the home defence, Charlie picked up the loose ball and played it back to Morgan, the Frome defender making space and sending a precise 20 yard pass to Sol wide on the right, and Sol delivering a low cross into the 6 yard box which Dylan converted with a sublime back heel finish, 6-0 Frome.

Josh kept alert in the Frome goal, and was quick to deal with any threat, ably assisted by Oli, Morgan and Cole in the Frome backline, with Henry working hard to break up any threat from the middle of the pitch.

Sol himself went on to find the net a further 3 times, and Jakub completed his brace producing a fine finish from the edge of the box. Fittingly it fell to Dylan to complete the scoring when he saw his first shot parried by the Derry Hill keeper but was first to the ball and produced a fine lobbed finish over the keeper and defenders on the line.

Frome can be pleased with their work rate, and the way they applied themselves to playing some nice football. Credit also goes to the Derry Hill players, who kept going to the final whistle in the spirit of the game.

Frome man of the match: Sol, for his excellent wing play and efforts throughout.

Frome Town FC u11s 3-0 Derry Hill

Frome Town FC under 11s welcomed Derry Hill to a sunny Oakfield school on Saturday morning for the first ever league meeting between the two teams.

Derry Hill kicked off attacking down the slope, but Frome were soon in control and putting the Derry Hill goal under pressure, with through balls from Charlie and Ben in the midfield releasing Sol and Dylan up front, and both Fin and Kuba having success on the wings.

Despite numerous corners and chances, it took until 10 minutes before half time for the deadlock to be broken. Charlie picked up the ball on the right of the area before steadying himself and firing into the bottom corner of the Derry Hill net.

Charlie nearly added to his goal when a well worked corner with Sol saw him curl a shot in towards the top right corner, but the ball struck the Derry Hill defender on the far post and was gratefully collected by the visiting goalie.

The Frome back line and keeper comfortably mopped up any attempted balls out of the Derry Hill half, and despite further chances the half ended 1-0 to Frome.

Frome got the second half underway and immediately looked to continue where they left off, creating plenty of chances but again failing to finish. Once more it fell to Charlie to take control firing in his second with a trademark strike from the edge of the area.

This prompted Derry Hill to have their best spell of the game, and whilst they never threatened Josh in the Frome goal, they did press higher up the field and give their backline a well earned rest.

With time running out Frome once again took charge of the game, and following a series of chances a scramble in the penalty box saw the ball fall to Charlie who prodded home from eight yards to complete a well deserved hatrick and wrap up a 3-0 win for Frome.

Special mention goes to the Frome defense of Joe, Morgan and Cole, who stayed alert throughout and didn’t let anything threaten the Frome goal, and in a game where Charlie scored three, the man of the match goes to Cole for a solid display throughout the match.

Frome Town FC u11′s 2-1 Westbury Youth u11′s

A bright and sunny Saturday morning saw Frome welcome Westbury to Oakfield school for a league match.

Westbury got the game underway playing down the slope, and within seconds were awarded a penalty when their forward went down in the area. Josh stood tall in the Frome goal though, and the penalty struck the crossbar.

Frome then started to apply pressure, and camped in the Westbury half for the next 20 minutes. Fin and Kuba were causing Westbury problems on the wings, and Charlie and Ben were getting forward and trying their luck from distance.

Henry worked hard in the middle to break up any counter attacks by Westbury, and the back line of Oli, Morgan and Joe kept it tight, denying the visiting forwards.

The first goal arrived against the run of play, when a speculative effort from a Westbury midfielder looped over Josh. Frome were slightly knocked out of their stride by this, and the game turned into an even affair with neither side managing to gain control. As the game headed for half time, Ben latched onto a loose ball and let fly with a drive from a full 20 yards. The Westbury keeper was stranded as the ball dipped under the crossbar to make it one all at the interval.

Frome looked brighter again at the start of the second half, and Joel and Sol were working hard to create space in and around the Westbury area. A succession of corners to Frome had the visitors defending deep, but the ball wouldn’t drop for the home side.

The Westbury keeper produced a series of excellent stops, whilst Josh was a virtual spectator in the Frome net.

With 15 minutes to play, and following another Frome corner, Finlay was first to a loose ball in the Westbury area, and he made no mistakes with a low shot into the bottom left of the Westbury net. 2-1 to Frome.

With tails up Frome looked to push on and put the contest out of reach, and were unlucky not to increase their lead on numerous occasions. A heavy challenge on Charlie presented Frome with a free kick some 20 yards from goal, and Ben struck a fine effort that rattled the crossbar.

In the last moments Sol was sent clear, but a heavy touch at the vital moment when one on one with the keeper meant the chance to add to the score line went begging.

So 2-1 to Frome at the final whistle, and whilst the team didn’t play at their best, they showed great character and effort to come back from a goal down, regain control, and run out winners.

Frome Town FC u11′s 3 – 1 Chippenham Town Youth Blue u11′s

Zonkey sponsored Frome Town FC u11′s played Chippenham Town Youth Blue on Saturday morning.

From the off Frome put the visitors on the backfoot, and a great lobbed finish from Dylan saw them take the lead in the first five minutes. Further pressure was met by stubborn resistance from the Chippenham defenders, but Sol broke through in the 25 minute to smash the ball past the keeper and put Frome two goals to the good at the break.

The second half was a more even affair, but again Frome applied pressure and when the ball fell to Charlie on the edge of the Chippenham box, the Frome midfielder made no mistake in producing a great strike into the top right of the Chippenham net.

Chippenham hit back shortly after with a headed goal from a corner, but Frome comfortably saw the match out and were unlucky not to extend their advantage.

Well done to the lads, but also to Chippenham who played with great spirit.
